I got up today thinking I’d make a backing for quilt and layer it as well as make some happy blocks.
So I headed into my sewing room and decided I’ll make the back and layer the quilt before I started the fun and easy happy block sewing.
So I made the backing (I had *just* enough fabric) and sandwiched the quilt. I looked at the quilt sandwich and a quilting plan came to mind. So I I thought why not, lets just start quilting this baby. So I did. And I focused and voila it was quilted. I had a few mishaps along the way. Oh and I lost at bobbin roulette. But but it got done and then trimmed.
Being focused and loving finishes I decided to just make the binding. I didn’t have the material that was used for the larger blocks (or if I did I wasn’t able to easily put my hands on it). However, I found a fabric that was as close to a perfect match as one can get. Score!
The binding was made and applied to the back. That allowed me to practise my machine binding. So I did that. Then it was so close to done that I sewed the binding onto the front of the quilt. And voila – a finished quilt.
See how nicely that binding material matches the blue in the quilt?
The backing fabric, a thrift store find, is a great match with the front too even though it is a bit paler.
The quilt is 45″ x 63″ and is based on 2″ and 3.5″ squares using this 9 patch block:
This makes 3 finishes in the first week of June! I’m on a finishing binge and I love it!
The happy blocks will wait until tomorrow.
Congratulations on your pretty finishes! Your 9-patch is lovely, and this binding is just the perfect one 😉 Cute happy blocks, can’t wait to see what you will do with them!

So scrappy and bright…..love it
Super cute scrappy quilt! LOVE how you rode the finishing train straight to the end of the line. Way to go!
Congrats on a beautiful finish. I’m on a making binge but I really should be on finishing binge with 2 flimsies hanging in the closet and 4 quilts stacked waiting for binding. If it matters, I did start a small quilt last week and at 630pm yesterday the quilting and binding was done.
What a fun quilt and I love the cheery backing! Great find!
9 patch blocks are so versatile. This is a great looking quilt, and what fun to find backing and binding that goes so well with it. 🙂
Always so nice to have a finish, or two! That is such a happy looking fabric you have for your quilt backing, I love it.
Love this pattern! Really nice way to use up scraps. Thank you for sharing it!

I like it! Another idea I could use with all these little 2 1/4 inch squares that I have.
Such a happy finish!

Great finish! I would get so much more done if I just went ahead and finished things!!
That is an awesome finish!! it must have wanted to be done if everything came together like that!!! Love the block too!!
Visiting from TGIFF; the binding is a perfect match. If you didn’t mention it I wouldn’t have known it wasn’t selected and used in the quilt top to begin with. Congratulations on the finish.
Those happy blocks can wait because you’ve got your happy now! Lovely quilt and oh so fast to finish! Happy, happy, happy! Thanks for sharing your happiness on Wednesday Wait Loss.
