I received a pattern for The Cardinal quilt block last year in a quilt focused advent box from a Canadian quilt store called Watergirl Quilt company. They provided the pattern and material to make the bird but not the entire block. It was so pretty that I made it right away. I not only made the bird, I made the entire block. Then it had to sit in the UFO pile while I decided how to quilt it and back it. It sat for an entire year, but I did complete it this month and included a hanging sleeve as at 20″ square it makes a lovely small wall hanging.

The pattern, unsurprisingly is called “The Cardinal” and was designed by Erin Underwood at ErinUnderwoodQuilts.com.
I gifted it to a friend earlier this December and she loved it! I’m not sure if I’m going to make this Cardinal Quilt block again but I’m definitely keeping the pattern.
