Lupine Block designed by Bonnie Hunter of Quiltville

My first Lupine and Laughter Quilt Block

Posted on January 10, 2026January 10, 2026

Many years ago I dated a fellow from Cape Breton Island in Nova Scotia, Canada. I visited his family’s home there in late spring/early summer and just loved the Lupines blooming in the nearby field. So, when Bonnie Hunter announced the Lupine and Laughter Quilt as the 2025-2026 mystery quit I just had to make it. And, by some miracle, I was able to keep up with the clues. Therefore, today, the day after the reveal, I made my first Lupine and Laughter quilt block. Instead of using white/light as my neutral fabric I decided to use a solid black fabric (Northcott Colorworks Black). In my opinion it makes the purples, light blue, and light to medium pinks just pop.

While I would like better points (I always want my points to be perfect), I’m pretty happy at how they turned out.

Back to sewing, I have quite a few more blocks to make! More progress to be made tomorrow!

I think the black was a good design choice. It would not have the same impact with a white/light fabric.
