I’m working hard on Lupine & Laughter the latest Bonnie Hunter Mystery Quilt. However, I needed a break so I started this purple quilt top. Easy to piece, and bonus it’s purple, my favourite colour.
There were lots of purple 2.5″ strips leftover from both Lupine & Laughter and Frolic, another Bonnie Hunter mystery quilt. So,I started to look for pattern inspiration and the Marsala quilt from Villa Rosa caught my eye. It was my inspiration for the Love Me Some Purple Quilt. What can be more fun than making 9 patches?
But what colour to use to contrast with the purple? I consulted the colour wheel and saw yellow was a complementary colour. I auditioned some bright yellow fabrics as the contrast fabric . However, I quickly discarded them as I wanted a quilt that didn’t look like it was a circus tent. So I auditioned some that were more on the beige side of yellow.

I used the black and white filter on my phone to see how the values of the contrast fabric worked together.

As I didn’t want a flat beige/yellow fabric I chose the 4th and 5th fabrics from the left.
I ended up not having quite enough of one of those two fabrics. One of the blocks was pieced.

It looks obvious in the photo but once it’s quilted I’m sure it will not be noticed. And if the quilt police notice it I’ll give them a prize from the Crackerjack box and send them on their way to find someone who cares!
Here is my finished quilt top:

I’m almost 100% certain that I’ll be finishing this soon and keeping it for myself as purple is my favourite colour. The quilt top is 42″ x 54″ – perfect to cover me when I’m lounging in my recliner chair or on the couch.

Oh, I love purple too! That looks quick and easy to make.
Purple is my favorite color, too. I love this design. I could also see it down as a rainbow quilt with each column and/or row and different color. Food for thought for a future project, not that I need any more ideas.
That is so pretty! Your purples look great in combination with the beige-y yellows. I think it’s hard to find pretty purples for a whole quilt, but you did it!
What a lovely fast quilt to make! Perfect for a break from a more complex project. I love me some purple too, so for me this quilt is perfection. Thanks for sharing on my weekly show and tell, Wednesday Wait Loss.

Hi Yvonne, what yummy colours! Why would anyone complain about an extra seam in 100’s of them? It’s going to be a wonderful quilt to curl up in and feel great! Thanks for linking up to I Quilted This!
I love you some purple too – what a rich beautiful quilt – those purples are amazing!
Purple is also my favorite color! It is beautiful and looks like you choose just the right shade of light yellow to work great with it.
Yvonne, this is fantastic! Purple is my favorite color also. Beautiful and fun. I think the yellow works great with it! Thanks for sharing with us at Monday Musings. Have a great weekend.
You absolutely should keep your beautiful purple quilt! I love the tan yellows you selected and a pieced piece is awesome…..using up what you have 🙂
Purple is such a fun color to sew with. You have some beautiful purples to play with. I’ve got one purple and yellow quilt and it’s one of my favorites. It has to feel good to get those left overs into a finished quilt top.
What a pretty quilt top! I love purple too, and this pattern is perfect for featuring all these pretty scraps! Thank you for sharing and linking up with P&Q (sorry, I’m late on commenting)
