And after a few days of binding another quilt is finally off of the UFO pile and ready for use. This quilt is slightly too small to be used on our bed (it fits – just – but likely blanket wars would ensue…), so it will find a home on the spare bed, giving the quilt that on that bed a chance to take a break from duty.
This quilt started quite a number of years ago when I began randomly collecting black and white fabrics. The collection kept growing until I finally found a pattern that showed them off nicely. Sadly the pattern, which was from a magazine, was the victim of a move, and seems to be MIA. I do believe a similar (aka almost identical pattern) may be in a book called Tessellations by Jackie Robinson and that Jenny Doan may have a variation as well of this pattern as well.
Here is another picture of the quilt, from just after we quilted it at Whirls and Swirls Studio:
The corner blocks in the border were not part of the original pattern. I can’t remember what they had done in the corners of the border but whatever it was I changed it up to do the square in square blocks instead. Sadly I did cut off a couple of points when I put the borders on.
While I still love black and white fabrics I think it may be a while until I start another black and white quilt. There is another black and white quilt in my unfinished quilt pile, though that one does have a bit of red it in it to pop it.
I remember you searching for black and white fabrics wherever you went. I’m glad it all finally came together in this striking quilt. I thought you were crazy even attempting something so complex but you did it! Looks fabulous.
It is gorgeous. I am sure it took you a while to gather all those black and white prints. The piano key border is awesome and I love how you addressed the corners. Visiting from WOW.
Hello! Wow, what a fabulous finish. It looks so beautiful and inviting on that bed. Anyone staying as a guest in the spare bed will certainly enjoy sleeping underneath it. I agree with Preeti – I love the piano key border. Really nice and isn’t it wonderful to have another UFO bite the dust?! ~smile~ Roseanne
Great job….looks fabulous
That quilt is fabulous!
It’s a great quilt! I did a B&W quilt, with pops of lime, a few years ago. Still have lots of scraps! It’s hard to get a quilt big enough not to have tug of war with the blankets! 🙂
Congrats on the finish. It looks great. Thanks for linking up with Thank Goodness It’s Finished Friday.
Black and white is so classic! Really love this one. Thanks for sharing on Wednesday Wait Loss.
I love your quilt! It will be featured on Finished or Not Friday this week. The pattern may be Sparkler by Freshly Pieced, which was in the spring 2013 edition of Fons and Porter Easy Quilts and is now available as a pattern. I’ve made several of this design, and they are just so fun!
