I was off work last week on vacation and wasn’t in the mood to finish quilts. So, I indulged myself by making 2-patches with 2.5″ blocks and sewing them to 4.5″ x 2.5″ rectangles. It was lovely easy zen sewing! Rather than use a white or black background I decided to use a very soft yellow solid that’s been in my stash for a while as the background.
This is what resulted:Sadly the colours don’t show up quite right on the picture. The beige crosses are a soft yellow and show up better on this picture:
There are some “perfect random” fails in this quilt with two patches of the same colour touching itself but that’s real random right? It was fun and quick to piece. I can see making another one of these in a different colourway. Especially seeing that my box of 2.5″ squares is muffin topped.
Great scrappy quilt top and looks easy also. Love all the bright squares.
Zen sewing sounds like a recipe for the perfect vacation. Congrats on your quilt finish. It’s SEW lovely!!
This is beautiful, and I love the subtle unexpectedness of a pale yellow background where white is expected. Like the sunshine of an autumn afternoon. Congrats on your finish!
I love scrappy quilts and this one is a great stash buster. I love zen sewing and this pattern is perfect for that. Thanks for sharing.
I think it turned out to be a lovely quilt! It had to feel good to use the pale yellow that has been in your stash for a long time! It’s a scrappy quilt so if a couple of the same colors touch…that adds to the charm!
Sometimes you just want to sew, and scraps are the best! Love this pattern, and all your colorful scraps. And I’m still chuckling about the “muffin top” box of squares!
The yellow is a fabulous background! Softer and more interesting than white, but still letting the bright smaller squares really shine. Super top! 🙂
This is a wonderful scrappy quilt. So happy. Thanks for sharing with Oh Scrap!
very cute quilt and a great way to spend a vacation
Hum, your “fail” must not have been too bad because it just didn’t jump out at me. I, too, like the soft yellow background fabric. You’ve got a good variety of bright squares. I find many of my squares are dull, boring fabrics. But like this pattern as an easy, doable pattern to use a lot of 2.5″ squares. And, don’t you deserve to make something new during vacation sewing?
So pretty!
They call me mellow yellow LOL Really they do Mellow as is marshmallow, and the yellow because it’s my favorite color. I’m hoping to do something similar to this with all the 2.25 squares that I have!
It never ceases to amaze me what can be done with scraps and 2 1/2″ squares. Great job.
Very pretty!
this is just so pretty!!
Very pretty, and a great way to use up those scraps–without being too overwhelming to sew.
Lovely quilt! Such a wonderful way to use up those 2-1/2″ squares. This would look wonderful in any colorway.
Yet another wonderful scrap quilt, I always love seeing your pretties. Thanks for linking up with the Chameleon’s Colour & Inspiration Party.
This is my favorite quilt of all. It is so pretty and I don’t think anyone will notice if the same fabrics are touching because ones eyes cannot sit still with all the movement. This is the 3rd quilt I have looked at today that I could make with strip packs and my muslin scraps. Although I really need to continue on my Burgoyne Surrounded. Thank you for linking up to Put your foot down.
Perfect for when you want to do some mindless sewing. Thanks for sharing.
