I got a wild hair to make some 4.5″ (unfinished) rail fence quilt blocks a week or two ago. Yes, using I.5″ strips. I never said I was sane! I sewed 4 of the 4.5″ inch blocks into a larger block.
Please ignore the threads on that block. I made about 30 of thse thinking they’d make a nice 40″ x 48″ quilt.
When I went to audition the quilt I soon knew that I wasn’t going that way! Here are two layouts I auditioned
I liked it but I wasn’t sold on it so I tried this too!
I liked that too and realised I had enough blocks to make these two quilt tops:
And this one:
In my unimaginative way I’m calling the first one “Bright and Busy” and the second one “Bright and Cheerful”.
They are being added to the mountain of flimsies I need to quilt. It may be while until I decide to make more rail fence blocks!

Oh my, both of these are so sweet and delightful!
Both of your quilts are “bright”! And given the snow on the ground, such a nice “bright” toppers for the cold winter. I love the 4 inch rail fences. I like that size a lot and tend to do smaller measurements.
oh I really like how this turned out!!!
I love them, so wonderful to use up some scraps. I could easily make these with my mound of scraps and use them for donation quilts. Thanks for the inspiration!
Hi,
Beautiful quilts….love all those pretty colors. Have
a great day!
Great use of scraps!
The colors are so bright and beautiful. Good lay-out choices.
Love the four patch additions for a great quilt!
It’s super cute! I don’t want to make any more quilts…well, not until I finish some of what is started. I love this idea and it’s a great way to use up the smaller scraps.
Wow those are pretty! Thanks for sharing on Wednesday Wait Loss.
Beautiful finishes and I especially love the snow for your backdrop. Thank you so much for linking up to Put your foot down. Hope one day I will have a quilt along that will pull you in.
