Here is my latest project:
The best thing is with pressing to the white (I know, goes against the grain) the seams all nestle. I love nestling seams!
I found this pattern while surfing Pinterest and traced the pattern back to Ramona at Doodlebugs and Rosebuds quilts. It caught my eye immediately as something I’d love to make. While Ramona made hers with 2.5″ squares I made mine with 2″ squares. I already had 20 or so 16 patches made with that size of square that were destined for another project I decided not to pursue.
While I used some brights I tried to use those squares that I normally overlooked for not being bright enough. It was odd working out of my comfort zone in terms of the tones and shades used but it still produced a nice bright quilt.
I haven’t put borders on yet as I’m pondering exactly what I want to do and I’m looking at my now much emptier scrap box and pondering if there will be enough in there for a scrappy outer border or if I need to start cutting up some larger scraps to add variety.

Very cool quilt! I have some tiny 2.5″ four patches that would look great in this layout! Thank you so much for sharing!
Oh my goodness, that looks great! Well done indeed.
This is fabulous! My quilting reference books say to always press the sashing seams towards the sashing, as you’ve done, for exactly that reason. And I think you were right to include those “not-bright-enough” fabrics; they add a lot of depth and allow the quilt to be bright and cheerful without requiring sunglasses. Great job, and good luck with your border ideas!
How bright do you usually go? This fun scrap quilt TOTALLY gives a bright and cheerful vibe! Good for you on working outside your comfort zone. LOVE the result!! Looking forward to seeing what you decide about a border.
I love this and can’t wait to see what you do with the border!
Wow! This is my kind of quilt–bright, scrappy, and fun! I think you are inspiring lots of us to try this pattern. BTW, I always press towards the sashing too.
I think you did a great job of mixing your ‘not so brights’ in with the brights, it all blends so nicely.
That’s so beautiful! Perfect for those 16 patches you’ve been making. I like the design of your sashing in between the 16 patches, too.
So much scrappy goodness 🙂
Thanks for sharing with Oh Scrap!
THat is an awesome quilt!!! I love all the colors and the scrappiness of it!!
Love that bright, beautiful quilt! When I look closely I can see some dull fabric, but the overall effect is happy! This is inspirational . I’ve just started cutting some 2″ squares from my scrap bin.
It is nice to work outside of our comfort zone once in a while. Your quilt is beautiful and I’m curious about the border. I am struggling with a border on my latest quilt. Thank you for linking up to Put your foot down.
