Scrap Quilts make me Happy

Posted on January 14, 2021January 14, 2021

What can I say other than scrap quilts make me happy! This one is no exception!  Here it is all finished:

Happy scrappy quilt

I started this quilt back in April 2020  when I saw the quilt on Ramona’s blog Doodlebugs and Rosebuds Quilts. That seems a lifetime ago now.   I quickly sewed the top using 2″ rather than the 2.5″ squares she used.  And of course then it sat.  And sat.

Like all good quilts it seemed to need to age in the unfinished quilts piles for a few months.   I debated about adding borders. But borders never happened, as I decided to just get it done and quilt it as is:

scrappy quilt layout

I free motion quilted it at home using a simple large curvy meander.

I just looked at my 2.5″ scrap box – with how many scraps I cut up when I was doing a clean up last weekend I should seriously think about starting one of these with that size square.  Scraps never end but then again scrap quilts make me happy so it all works out well.

This is a lovely quilt! I’ve been making 16 pieced blocks but hadn’t decided how to set them. This design is perfect!

Your version of the quilt is beautiful! When I made mine I debated on adding a border. The final decision for me is that I wanted it bigger. Now I can see how nice it is without the border. Thanks for the shout out! Great finish.

I love how your scrappy quilt turned out. I have lots of 2-inch squares and 2-1/2-inch squares so see one of each size quilts in my future. Thank you for inspiring me!

Oh, what a beautiful, cheerful finish! Congratulations! I like this type of quilt best without borders. Is your backing a flannel? It looks so soft and snuggly! Great job.
